William F. Tucker, Jr., MD
Dr. Tucker is a board certified, fellowship trained hip and knee replacement/reconstruction surgeon. He was in private practice from 1995 through 2024, then he joined the Texas Joint Institute. His “small practice within a large practice” allows a personal patient experience along with access to subspecialists in other areas of orthopaedic care in the same group.
Dr. Tucker’s practice focuses on primary, first-time hip and knee replacement utilizing less invasive surgical approaches which help speed recovery and minimize pain following surgery. He was one of the first surgeons in Dallas to perform minimally invasive knee replacement. He utilizes a quadriceps sparing approach and robotic guided instrumentation for knee replacement. This “GPS system for the knee” allows the reproduction of a patient’s natural anatomy with less soft tissue dissection and release. He also performs direct anterior hip replacement, which allows replacement of the hip without detaching muscles or ligaments from the bone. These surgical techniques along with state-of-the-art materials and his entire surgical team combine to create an optimal surgical outcome. The goal of his entire team is to “treat people the way you want to be treated.”
Dr. Tucker is a Dallas native and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1981. He is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He performed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Parkland Memorial Hospital. After residency, he was awarded a fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction/Total Hip and Knee Replacement at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Tucker practices at Medical City Spine Hospital, Methodist Hospital for Surgery and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. He has served on the Medical Board of Texas Health Dallas and as President of the Medical Staff of Methodist Hospital for Surgery.
In his spare time, Dr. Tucker enjoys biking, fishing, snow-skiing and hiking. He and his wife, Dr. Amy Anderson, are members of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
